About The Service

What Is Data Cabling & Why Does It Matter?

Data cabling โ€” also called structured cabling or network cabling โ€” is the physical cable infrastructure that connects your devices to your network. Unlike Wi-Fi, a properly installed wired data point provides a fast, reliable, and secure connection that doesn't drop out, doesn't slow down with distance, and doesn't get congested by other devices.

Whether you need a single data point added to your home office, a full Cat6 installation across a new commercial office, or cabling for IP cameras and PoE devices โ€” Oz Technologies Group provides a professional, certified installation every time.

All work is carried out by an ACMA registered cabler (Licence No. A050576) and every cable is tested with professional equipment before we leave your property.

  • โœ“Faster and more reliable than Wi-Fi for critical devices
  • โœ“No dropouts, no interference, no congestion
  • โœ“Essential for IP cameras, smart TVs, and workstations
  • โœ“Adds value to your home or business property
  • โœ“All cabling concealed neatly where possible

What Type of Cable Do You Need?

Cat5e โ€” Still suitable for standard home use. Supports speeds up to 1Gbps over short distances. Being phased out in favour of Cat6.

Cat6 โ€” The current standard for most homes and offices. Supports 1Gbps reliably and is future-proofed for most applications. This is what we recommend for most jobs.

Cat6A โ€” The premium option. Supports 10Gbps and is recommended for server rooms, high-performance commercial environments, and future-proofing larger installations.

Not sure which one you need? Call us โ€” we'll advise you honestly based on your actual requirements.

FAQ

Data Cabling Questions

How much does data cabling cost? +
Pricing depends on the number of data points, cable run distances, and property type. We provide free, upfront fixed quotes with no hidden fees. Call us on 0449 954 803 for a quote.
How long does data cabling take? +
A single data point typically takes 1โ€“2 hours. A full home installation (4โ€“8 points) usually takes half a day. Commercial office fit-outs vary by scope โ€” we'll give you a clear timeframe in your quote.
Will you patch up walls after cabling? +
We route cables as neatly as possible and minimise any wall penetrations. We use wall plates and faceplates for a clean finish. Any access holes are kept minimal and we can advise on patching if required.
What's the difference between Cat6 and Cat6A? +
Cat6 supports 1Gbps and is the standard for most homes and offices. Cat6A supports 10Gbps and is recommended for server rooms and future-proofed commercial installations. We'll advise which is right for your situation.
Can you cable a home that's already built? +
Yes โ€” the majority of our jobs are in existing homes and offices. We route cables through wall cavities, roof spaces, and subfloor areas to minimise disruption.
Do I need an ACMA licensed cabler? +
For any cabling that connects to the telecommunications network (NBN, phone lines), yes โ€” ACMA registration is legally required. For internal structured cabling we are also ACMA registered, ensuring all work meets Australian standards.
